Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Frying Pan
  • Wire Rack

Ingredients

For the Apple Rings

  • 4 large apples (Gala, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • vegetable oil, for frying

For the Cinnamon Sugar Topping

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Optional: Peel apples. Slice into 1/4-inch rounds and use a small cutter to remove cores and create rings.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and 1/8 tsp cinnamon.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and buttermilk.
  • In a third bowl, mix 1/3 cup sugar and 2 tsp cinnamon for topping.
  • Combine wet and dry ingredients just before frying to make a smooth batter.
  • Heat 1–2 inches of oil in a skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  • Dip each apple ring in the batter, letting excess drip off. Fry in batches for 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  • Transfer to paper towel briefly, then roll warm rings in cinnamon sugar. Place on a wire rack to cool slightly. Serve warm!

Notes

Best served fresh. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in an air fryer or toaster oven. Try with ice cream or caramel drizzle for extra indulgence!
