Instructions
Optional: Peel apples. Slice into 1/4-inch rounds and use a small cutter to remove cores and create rings.
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and 1/8 tsp cinnamon.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and buttermilk.
In a third bowl, mix 1/3 cup sugar and 2 tsp cinnamon for topping.
Combine wet and dry ingredients just before frying to make a smooth batter.
Heat 1–2 inches of oil in a skillet to 350°F (175°C).
Dip each apple ring in the batter, letting excess drip off. Fry in batches for 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
Transfer to paper towel briefly, then roll warm rings in cinnamon sugar. Place on a wire rack to cool slightly. Serve warm!
Notes
Best served fresh. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in an air fryer or toaster oven. Try with ice cream or caramel drizzle for extra indulgence!
