Ingredients

Cheese

  • 10 oz mozzarella string cheese (about 10 sticks)

Breading

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs

Oil

  • vegetable oil for frying
  • cayenne pepper (optional, for a kick)

Instructions

  • Slice each string cheese stick into bite-sized pieces (3–4 per stick).
  • Set up three bowls: one with flour (and cayenne if using), one with whisked eggs and milk, one with breadcrumbs.
  • Dredge each piece in flour, then dip in egg wash, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
  • Optional: Chill breaded cheese bites in the freezer for 10–15 minutes for best results.
  • Heat 2 inches of oil in a skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry 5–7 bites at a time for 30 seconds until golden, turning as needed.
  • Remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  • Repeat until all are fried. Serve warm with marinara, ranch, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For extra crunch, double-dip in the egg wash and breadcrumbs. Freeze before frying for extra gooey results. Air fryer and oven-friendly too!
