Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.
In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition to ensure a smooth batter.
Stir in the milk and vanilla extract, blending until combined.
In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until everything is combined. Be careful not to over-mix!
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For an extra moist cake, replace half of the butter with applesauce. Serve with whipped cream or fresh fruit.
