Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 pieces eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition to ensure a smooth batter.
  • Stir in the milk and vanilla extract, blending until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until everything is combined. Be careful not to over-mix!
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For an extra moist cake, replace half of the butter with applesauce. Serve with whipped cream or fresh fruit.
