Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
Cream together butter, brown sugar, and egg. Stir in applesauce until smooth.
In a separate bowl, whisk together flours, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. Add to wet mixture and mix gently.
Fold in Craisins and walnuts.
Spread batter evenly in prepared pan and bake for 20–25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.
For the icing, mix confectioners' sugar, melted butter, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
Spread icing over cooled bars and top with additional walnuts if desired. Cut into squares and serve.
Notes
Use unsweetened applesauce to control sugar. Chill bars before slicing for cleaner cuts. Swap in raisins or dried apples if preferred.
