Ingredients
1poundGround beef
1smallOnion, finely minced
1cloveGarlic, minced
1/2cupWater
1/2cupKetchup
1tablespoonTomato paste
1tablespoonChili powder
1teaspoonYellow mustard
1teaspoonWorcestershire sauce
1/2teaspoonSalt
1/4teaspoonBlack pepper
1/4teaspoonSugar
PinchCayenne pepper (optional)
1cupCanned pinto beans or kidney beans, rinsed and drained
Instructions
In a large skillet over medium heat, add ground beef and minced onion. Use a potato masher or wooden spoon to break the beef into very fine crumbles as it browns.
Once the beef is no longer pink, drain excess grease and return to heat. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
Stir in water, ketchup, tomato paste, chili powder, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, sugar, and cayenne if using. Mix until fully combined.
Add the rinsed beans to the skillet. Stir gently to incorporate them into the chili.
Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, until thickened and saucy.
Serve hot as a hearty topping over steamed hot dogs.
Notes
Substitute turkey for a leaner version. Adjust heat by adding more cayenne or hot sauce. Great for make-ahead meals and perfect as a topping or dip!
