Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Potato Masher

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 small Onion, finely minced
  • 1 clove Garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/2 cup Ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon Sugar
  • Pinch Cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 cup Canned pinto beans or kidney beans, rinsed and drained

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add ground beef and minced onion. Use a potato masher or wooden spoon to break the beef into very fine crumbles as it browns.
  • Once the beef is no longer pink, drain excess grease and return to heat. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
  • Stir in water, ketchup, tomato paste, chili powder, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, sugar, and cayenne if using. Mix until fully combined.
  • Add the rinsed beans to the skillet. Stir gently to incorporate them into the chili.
  • Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, until thickened and saucy.
  • Serve hot as a hearty topping over steamed hot dogs.

Notes

Substitute turkey for a leaner version. Adjust heat by adding more cayenne or hot sauce. Great for make-ahead meals and perfect as a topping or dip!
