Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Oven

Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 1/3 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional) for flavor

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and garlic powder if you’re using it.
  • Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour mixture. Stir until the dough starts to come together.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 7-8 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  • Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  • Once it has risen, punch down the dough and divide it into two equal parts for your pizzas.
  • Roll out the dough to your desired size and thickness.
  • Pre-bake the dough in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for about 7-8 minutes before adding your toppings.

Notes

Make sure your water is warm, not hot, to keep the yeast alive. Knead the dough until it feels smooth; this helps develop the gluten for a better texture.
