Equipment

  • 9x13 inch Pan
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Wooden Spoon

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 package yellow cake mix plus ingredients called for on box
  • 2 packages orange JELL-O (3 oz each)
  • 1 package vanilla instant pudding (3.4 oz)
  • 1 cup 2% milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tub Cool Whip (8 oz), thawed

Instructions

  • Prepare and bake yellow cake in a 9x13-inch pan according to package directions. Cool completely.
  • Poke holes in the cooled cake using the handle of a wooden spoon.
  • In a bowl, combine 1 package orange JELL-O with 1 cup boiling water and 1 cup cold water. Mix well and pour evenly over the cake. Refrigerate for 4 hours.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the vanilla pudding mix, 1 cup cold milk, remaining orange JELL-O powder, and vanilla extract until thickened.
  • Fold in the Cool Whip until smooth and creamy.
  • Spread the mixture over the chilled cake and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

Chill the cake well before adding the topping. For a layered cake version, use two round cake pans and follow the same JELL-O soak method before frosting.
