1packetactive dry yeast(2 1/4 teaspoons)
1/4cupwarm water
Dough Ingredients
1/3cupwhite granulated sugar
1/4cupbuttersoftened
1teaspoonsalt
1cuphot milk
1largeegglightly beaten
4 1/2cupssifted all-purpose flour
2tablespoonsbuttermelted (for brushing rolls)
Instructions
Dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes, until it becomes foamy.
In a large bowl, combine the sugar, softened butter, and salt. Pour in the hot milk and stir until the butter melts and everything is blended well. Let this cool to lukewarm.
Add the yeast mixture and the lightly beaten egg to the bowl. Stir until combined.
Gradually add the sifted flour, a cup at a time, mixing thoroughly until a soft dough forms.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 to 7 minutes, until it’s smooth and elastic.
Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and divide it into 15 to 18 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a roll and arrange them in a greased baking pan.
Cover the rolls and let them rise again for about 30 to 45 minutes, or until puffy.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Bake the rolls for 15 to 20 minutes, or until they’re golden brown.
Brush the fresh-baked rolls with melted butter for an extra-soft, shiny finish.
Notes
These rolls are perfect for pairing with any main course or enjoyed with butter and jam.
