Creamy, decadent, and just a little bit nostalgic — Neiman Marcus Cake is one of those desserts that disappears fast at family gatherings. With a rich cream cheese layer sandwiched between a tender, nut-studded cake, it hits all the right notes: creamy, slightly crunchy, and perfectly sweet.

1boxCake Mix (any flavor)Use your preferred flavor such as yellow, white, or butter.
1stickButterMelted and slightly cooled.
2largeEggsFor the cake batter.
1cupChopped Nuts (pecans or walnuts)Toasted if desired, chopped.
1packageCream Cheese8 oz, softened to room temperature.
1boxPowdered Sugar16 oz, sifted for a smoother filling, if desired.
1largeEggFor the cream cheese filling, room temperature.
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with butter or nonstick spray and set aside.
In a large bowl, mix the cake mix, melted butter, and 2 eggs until well blended. Use a spatula or a hand mixer on low speed and scrape the bowl so no dry mix remains. The batter should be thick but spreadable.
Fold in the chopped nuts and mix until evenly distributed. If you like extra toasty flavor, briefly toast the nuts in a dry skillet before chopping.
In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and lump-free. Add the powdered sugar and the additional egg, mixing until fully incorporated and silky.
Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it into an even layer using an offset spatula or the back of a spoon.
Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the batter layer, leaving a small border so the top batter can cover it completely.
Carefully spoon the remaining batter over the cream cheese layer and gently spread to cover.
Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
Allow to cool completely before cutting so the cream cheese layer sets. Slice into squares and serve. Enjoy!
Notes
Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. The cream cheese layer keeps well chilled and the cake remains moist.
