Equipment

  • Deep Pan
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Slotted Spoon

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 2 large White Onions Peeled and cut into 1/2-inch rings, separated and kept intact.
  • 3 slices Mozzarella Cheese Cut into thin strips to fit inside rings.
  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour For dredging.
  • 5 large Eggs Beaten, at room temperature.
  • 2 cups Breadcrumbs Panko or regular for extra crunch.
  • 2-3 inches Oil For frying, enough to deep-fry.
  • to taste Marinara Sauce For dipping, warmed.

Instructions

  • Peel onions and cut into 1/2-inch rings. Separate the rings, keeping them intact so you have both large and small rings to pair.
  • Cut mozzarella cheese into strips that will fit comfortably inside the onion rings. Place a smaller onion ring inside a larger one and fill the gap with mozzarella, creating a snug, stuffed ring.
  • Freeze stuffed onion rings on a tray for 1 hour to help hold their shape and prevent the cheese from melting out during breading and initial frying.
  • Prepare three shallow bowls: one with all-purpose flour, one with the beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
  • Working with frozen rings, coat each onion ring in flour, shaking off excess. Dip into the beaten eggs, then press into breadcrumbs until well coated. For extra crunch, repeat the egg and breadcrumb step one more time to double-coat.
  • Heat oil in a deep pan or pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry onion rings in small batches for 3–4 minutes until golden brown, turning if needed so coloring is even.
  • Remove rings with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with warmed marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

For best texture, reheat in a 375°F oven or air fryer for 6–10 minutes until crispy and warm. Avoid microwaving, which makes the crust soggy.
