Equipment

  • Deep Pan
  • Mixing Bowls

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 2 large white onions
  • 3 slices mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (250 g)
  • 5 large eggs beaten
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs (230 g)
  • Oil for frying
  • Marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions

  • Peel onions and cut into 1/2-inch rings. Separate the rings, keeping them intact.
  • Cut mozzarella cheese into strips. Place a smaller onion ring inside a larger one and fill the gap with mozzarella.
  • Freeze stuffed onion rings for 1 hour to help hold their shape.
  • Prepare three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
  • Coat each onion ring in flour, then dip in eggs, and finally coat with breadcrumbs. Repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating for extra crunch.
  • Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry onion rings for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
  • Remove and drain on a paper towel. Serve hot with marinara sauce.

Notes

For a healthier option, bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15-18 minutes, flipping halfway through. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days, reheating in the oven for crispiness.
