Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
1cupall-purpose flour
2/3cupsugar
1/4cupcocoa powder
2tspbaking powder
1/4tspsalt
1/2cupmilk
2tbspmelted butter
1tspvanilla extract
1/2cupchopped nuts (optional)
Topping Ingredients
3/4cupbrown sugar
1/4cupcocoa powder
1 3/4cuphot water
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Mix well until fully combined.
Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry mix. Stir until everything comes together into a smooth batter.
If you’re adding chopped nuts, gently fold them into the batter now for added crunch.
Pour the batter into a greased 9x9-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar and additional cocoa powder, and sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter in the dish.
Carefully pour the hot water over the top of the cake batter without stirring. This is what creates the gooey fudge sauce underneath!
Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the cake has risen and the top looks set.
Let the cake cool slightly before digging in. Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream for the ultimate dessert experience!
Notes
For extra richness, serve with vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of chocolate syrup. Avoid stirring after adding hot water to ensure a fudgy sauce forms underneath.
