Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and onion until the meat is browned and the onions are translucent. Drain any excess fat.
In the prepared baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, top with half of the cooked beef and onion mixture, and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Repeat layers.
In a small bowl, mix together the cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth. Pour this mixture evenly over the casserole.
Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour.
Remove the foil, sprinkle the top with shredded cheese, and bake uncovered for an additional 30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
