Ingredients

Chicken Ingredients

  • 2 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

Tzatziki Ingredients

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 piece cucumber, grated and drained
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped

Serving Ingredients

  • 4 pieces pita or flatbreads
  • to taste Sliced tomatoes, onions, and lettuce for garnish

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken breasts and toss well to coat. Cover and marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes (or up to overnight if preparing ahead).
  • While the chicken marinates, mix the Greek yogurt, grated and well-drained cucumber, lemon juice, minced garlic, chopped dill, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Stir until everything is evenly combined. Chill in the refrigerator to let the flavors meld.
  • Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the chicken from the marinade and cook for 6-7 minutes per side, or until golden and cooked through. Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before slicing it thinly.
  • Warm the pita or flatbreads in a dry skillet or microwave for a few seconds until soft. Layer each with sliced chicken, generous spoonfuls of tzatziki, and your favorite fresh toppings—slice tomatoes, onions, and lettuce are classic.
  • Roll up your gyros or fold them in half. Serve immediately and devour!

Notes

For best results, marinate the chicken overnight and ensure the cucumber is well-drained for the tzatziki.
