  • 1 sheet Puff Pastry thawed according to package directions
  • 8 ounces Cream Cheese at room temperature for easy mixing
  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar for a balanced sweetness
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract pure vanilla for best flavor
  • 1 large Egg for egg wash
  • 1 tablespoon Water to beat with the egg for the egg wash
  • to taste Powdered Sugar optional for serving
  • to taste Milk optional for serving, mix until pourable

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  • Prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, mix the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  • Assemble the Danish: Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut into 4 equal squares. Spoon 1 to 2 tablespoons of the cream cheese filling into the center of each square.
  • Fold or shape the pastry: Fold the corners toward the center or create a border by pressing the edges with a fork.
  • Apply the egg wash: Beat the egg with water and brush over the pastry edges.
  • Bake: Place the Danishes on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden and puffed.
  • Serve warm: Let cool for a few minutes, then drizzle with icing made from powdered sugar and milk if desired.
