  • 2 pieces Granny Smith apples Tart apples work best for flavor.
  • 1/2 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Powdered sugar Divided for coating.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground cloves
  • as needed spray Cooking oil For spraying the air fryer basket.

Instructions

  • Wash and dry your apples thoroughly. Peel them if you prefer a softer fry, or leave the peel on for added texture and nutrition.
  • Slice the apples into fry-shaped sticks—about 1/2 inch thick. Aim for uniform size so they cook evenly.
  • In a shallow bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and half of the powdered sugar.
  • Lightly toss the apple sticks in the flour mixture, making sure every piece is evenly coated.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for about 3 minutes. While it heats, lightly spray your air fryer basket with cooking oil to prevent sticking.
  • Arrange the coated apple sticks in a single layer in the basket. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook them in batches.
  • Lightly spritz the tops of the apple fries with a bit more cooking spray. This helps achieve a crispier crust.
  • Air fry for 8-10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking. The fries should be golden and crisp on the outside.
  • Immediately toss the hot apple fries with the remaining powdered sugar or serve with your favorite dip, like caramel or vanilla yogurt.

Notes

For extra crunch, try dipping the apple slices in beaten egg before the dry coating. Keep a close eye in the last few minutes of cooking; every air fryer cooks a little differently.
