Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until cooked through and no longer pink, breaking it up as it cooks.
Add the diced onion and chopped mushrooms to the beef. Sauté together for about 5 minutes until the onions are translucent and mushrooms have softened.
Mix in the uncooked rice, cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, sour cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir thoroughly to combine all ingredients evenly.
Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and spread it out evenly.
If using, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top for a cheesy crust.
Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes to allow the cheese to brown and the topping to get bubbly.
Let it cool for a few minutes before serving to let the dish set slightly.
