Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Oven
  • Bowl
  • Muffin Tin

Ingredients

Filling Ingredients

  • 4 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and diced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water

Churro Bowl Ingredients

  • 4 10-inch flour tortillas
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • cooking spray

Optional Toppings

  • vanilla ice cream for serving
  • caramel sauce for drizzling
  • whipped cream for serving

Instructions

  • Prepare the Apple Filling: In a medium-sized skillet, melt the 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg. Stir until the apples are coated.
  • Thicken the Sauce: In a separate small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water to create a slurry. Stir this mixture into the skillet with the apple mixture and cook until the mixture thickens, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Create the Churro Bowls: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup of granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Set aside.
  • Shape the Tortillas: Using 4 10-inch flour tortillas, lightly spray both sides with cooking spray. Carefully press each tortilla into an oven-safe bowl or muffin tin to form a bowl shape.
  • Bake the Bowls: Bake the tortillas in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until they are golden and crispy.
  • Add Filling: Once the bowls cool slightly, spoon the apple filling into each churro bowl.
  • Coat with Cinnamon Sugar: Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture generously over the filled churro bowls for that perfect churro taste.
  • Serve: Optionally, drizzle with caramel sauce and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream before serving!

Notes

Churro Apple Pie Bowls taste best fresh, but you can store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C), covered with foil to prevent drying out.
