  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherries, chopped
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (optional) Optional for added flavor
  • Extra powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
  • Mix in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until everything is combined.
  • Fold in the chopped cherries and, if you like, the mini chocolate chips.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  • Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on parchment-lined baking sheets.
  • Press down slightly on each ball with the bottom of a glass.
  • Bake for 14-16 minutes, or until the edges are slightly golden.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar while still warm.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
