Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Oven
  • Mixing Bowl

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf artisan bread (sourdough or ciabatta)
  • 3 tablespoons butter (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh parsley (chopped, optional)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • 1 pound thinly sliced ribeye steak or ground beef
  • 1 medium onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1 green or yellow bell pepper (thinly sliced)
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (or your preferred cheese)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a bowl, mix butter, minced garlic, Parmesan, and parsley. Slice bread in half and spread mixture evenly. Toast for 5-7 minutes until crisp.
  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add steak, seasoning with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook until browned.
  • Add onions and peppers to one side of the skillet and sauté. Mix all, place cheese on top, and cover to melt.
  • Spread the filling on the bread's bottom half. Add extra toppings if desired, then place the top half over it.
  • Lightly press, slice, and serve immediately.

Notes

For a twist, try using mozzarella or cheddar instead of provolone. If you like extra crunch, broil the sandwich for 2 minutes before serving.
