Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper

Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Filling Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Garlic Butter Topping

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Stir and let sit for about 5 minutes, until foamy.
  • Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 5–7 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 30 minutes, until doubled in size.
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
  • Flatten each piece into a rectangle. Place a generous amount of shredded mozzarella in the center, then fold the dough over the cheese, pinching the seams to seal tightly.
  • Place each breadstick seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Cover and let rest for 10 minutes while the oven finishes heating.
  • In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
  • Brush half the garlic butter mixture over the tops of the breadsticks.
  • Bake for 12–15 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven and brush with the remaining garlic butter while hot.
  • Let cool slightly, then serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For the softest breadsticks, measure your flour carefully and don’t rush the kneading process. Feel free to swap mozzarella for your favorite cheese or add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
