Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted

Filling

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch coarse sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add Butter: Pour melted butter into the bowl and mix until crumbly.
  • Layer the Base: Press half of the oat mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  • Add Chocolate and Caramel: Sprinkle chocolate chips over the crust, then drizzle caramel sauce evenly on top.
  • Top Layer: Crumble the remaining oat mixture over the caramel and gently press down.
  • Bake: Place in the oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  • Cool and Serve: Allow the carmelitas to cool in the pan before cutting into squares. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt if desired.

Notes

Let the carmelitas cool completely in the pan to set properly before slicing. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Freeze in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature before serving.
