Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Mixing Bowl

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter for filling
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter for caramel sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream

Instructions

  • Prepare the Filling: In a saucepan, melt 2 tbsp butter over medium heat. Add diced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook for 5–7 minutes until softened. Stir in flour and a bit of water to thicken. Let cool.
  • Prep the Pastry: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out the puff pastry and cut into 6 squares. Score a border inside each square and brush with beaten egg.
  • Assemble: Spoon apple filling into the center of each pastry, within the scored lines. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Bake: Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden and puffed. Remove and let cool slightly.
  • Make the Caramel Sauce: In a small saucepan, melt 1/4 cup butter. Stir in brown sugar and heavy cream. Boil gently for 2–3 minutes, stirring. Let cool slightly.
  • Drizzle and Serve: Drizzle caramel sauce over baked pastries and enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Thawed puff pastry should be cold for best results. Store leftover caramel in the fridge for up to 1 week. Try using pears or peaches instead of apples for variety.
