Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups chopped apples

  • 1 cup cream cheese
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup whipped cream
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two cake pans.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, cream the softened butter with sugar until fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Fold in the chopped apples.
  • Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • For the filling, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
  • Once the cakes are cooled, layer them with cream cheese filling and whipped cream.
  • Drizzle caramel sauce over the top before serving.

Notes

Use tart apples like Granny Smith for a great balance of flavors. Let the cake cool completely before layering to avoid melting the cream cheese filling.
