Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp black cocoa powder

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Coloring

  • Black food coloring (gel or paste)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch cake pans.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, black cocoa, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Cream butter and sugar together until fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
  • Mix in buttermilk, oil, vanilla extract, and vinegar.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Add black food coloring to achieve the desired color.
  • Divide batter into cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  • Let cakes cool before frosting.
