Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Baking Dish

Ingredients

Meat

  • 2 lbs lean ground beef

Sauces

  • 1 cup Thousand Island dressing
  • 1/4 cup mayo

Vegetables

  • 1 cup diced yellow onion
  • 1 cup diced dill pickle

Spices

  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper

Cheese

  • 2 cups shredded triple cheddar cheese blend

Tater Tots

  • 24 oz frozen tater tots

Garnish

  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 1/4 cup Thousand Island dressing for topping

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef and diced yellow onion until the beef is browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat.
  • Season the beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir in the diced dill pickles, 1 cup Thousand Island dressing, and mayo until evenly combined. Turn off the heat.
  • Spread the beef mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the beef layer.
  • Arrange the frozen tater tots evenly over the top.
  • Bake, uncovered, for 35-40 minutes or until the tater tots are crisp and golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes.
  • Top with shredded lettuce and drizzle with the remaining Thousand Island dressing just before serving.
  • Serve hot and enjoy your homemade Big Mac casserole!

Notes

Use lean ground beef to keep the casserole from getting greasy. Don’t skip the pickles for the signature tang!
