Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups All-Purpose Flour Measured and leveled
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda Sift if clumped
  • 0.5 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp Ground Nutmeg

Wet Ingredients

  • 0.5 cups Unsweetened Applesauce Room temperature, can be homemade
  • 0.5 cups Granulated Sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan, or line it with parchment for easy removal. Set the pan aside while you mix the batter.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Whisk briefly to evenly distribute the leavening and spices.
  • In another bowl, mix the applesauce and granulated sugar until well combined. Stir for about 30 seconds.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula. Tap the pan gently on the counter to release any large air bubbles.
  • Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs attached.
  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a cooling rack to finish cooling. Serve slightly warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For a richer cake, replace 2 tablespoons of applesauce with melted butter or oil. For gluten-free, use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend.
